The Women’s Economic Empowerment Global Summit (WEEGS) is a significant collaboration between NAMA and UN Women, addressing women participation in the economy and the advancement of women in professional paths, and promoting equal opportunities for women entrepreneurs locally and globally. It also aims to contribute to advancing the women’s economic agenda of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Additionally, the summit will advance discussions with international decision-makers on best practices for women advancement and empowerment economically and professionally, as well as present strategies, opportunities, and case studies to empower women in sectors where they are underrepresented (including – but not limited to – procurement, finance, city planning and STEM) and encourage organisations’ commitment for action.
Our Joint Effort
Innovative multi-stakeholder partnerships and transformative action are necessary for achieving the SDGs. UN Women has developed a series of high-impact flagship programmes to deepen its efforts and achieve transformative results.
In line with the UAE’s vision and support of women empowerment, both locally and globally, NAMA Women Advancement Establishment announced its support to the flagship programme “Entrepreneurship and gender-responsive procurement” during the UN General Assembly in 2016. NAMA also announced that it will be hosting in partnership with UN Women, the Women Economic Empowerment Global Summit in Sharjah in 2017.
The Summit will be held every two years, and will focus on women’s achievements in various economic sectors, give women access to the market and emerging economic sectors, as well as provide a platform to share best practices and commitment to action to create and enabling economy for women.
